The Essence of Clarity
Our discussion kicked off discussing how clarity—or the lack thereof—can make or break an organization. It's the bedrock of effective decision-making, communication, and execution. When a team understands its goals and strategies, it not only improves decision-making but also boosts engagement and morale.
Clay Stelzer posed a thought-provoking question he often asks his clients: "What do you want?" It's a simple yet profound inquiry that gets to the heart of clarity. Many of us struggle to articulate our desires and purpose, but it's essential for creating the reality we seek.
Julie Lokun brought to the table the concept of reverse engineering our goals. By starting with a clear mission statement and working backward, we can create a framework that guides us toward our long-term objectives.
Kevin Kepple tackled the issue of achievement apathy and burnout, pointing out that when we lack clarity, we may feel busy but not necessarily productive. Clarity of purpose gives us the 'why' behind our existence, while clarity of vision paints a picture of our desired future state.
Embracing Purpose and Presence
As the conversation progressed, we explored the dynamic nature of purpose. Clay Stelzer encouraged us to embrace the idea that our purpose is not static; it evolves as we do. It's not about finding a one-time answer but engaging in a continuous process of discovery.
Julie Lokun urged us to look back at our childhood dreams and innate desires to uncover our true purpose. Often, we overcomplicate things and miss what's right in front of us.
The Cost of Uncertainty
We delved into the potential pitfalls of moving forward without clarity. The fear and uncertainty of claiming one's purpose can be daunting, but the cost of indecision can be even higher. Kevin Kepple highlighted the waste of energy and time, while I pointed out the potential financial losses from heading in the wrong direction. Clay Stelzer reminded us that sometimes, a fall can serve as a wake-up call, teaching us the importance of gaining clarity.
The Decision to Move Forward
When faced with a foggy bridge, our responses can vary. Julie Lokun expressed her determination to move forward despite alienation from those stuck in fear and control. Kevin Kepple spoke of the rewards that come from perseverance through challenges. Clay Stelzer emphasized the importance of being present and honoring our current circumstances. I advocated for a cautious approach, advising us to check in with our intuition and instincts before taking the next step.
