5 Reasons to No Longer Recruit on LinkedIn

Posted by  smartmovesinc

We have shared many articles on the benefits of recruitment on LinkedIn.  It's a valuable platform but with an ever-changing online culture, LinkedIn is showing some 'darksides' for human resources. Here are 5 reasons to consider before deciding to continue with your recruitment on LinkedIn:

1 - Everyone is working off of the same database:

Because everyone is working from the same database, they are seeing the same candidates as everyone else for searches as everyone else. Anyone with high-demand skills listed on their LinkedIn profiles or who have other desirable traits (such as a degree from a specific University, past employment at a competitive company, etc.) are constantly being bombarded by recruiters.

2 - No one is checking their LinkedIn Mail

InMails response rates appear to be going down. Most likely it is because new LinkedIn tools have come on the market which make it easy to send mass messages to people on LinkedIn. It has become overly simplistic to send out a lot of messages. So while the message volume has continued to increase, the number of desirable candidates is relatively fixed.

3 - No Data

LinkedIn provides very little integration with other data sources and social graphs. There is a plethora of information on other sites such as Twitter and Facebook. However, LinkedIn doesn't even come close to those two as far as integrating data from outside of LinkedIn into its product.

4 - LinkedIn Connections and Endorsements are Polluted

People tend to simply accept invitations from anyone therefore the close connections of a candidate are unable to be determined.  Endorsements are given out like candy at Halloween and cannot be considered a good measurement of the skills of a candidate.

5 - Inaccurate Profile Information

Keep in mind that all LinkedIn data is written by the profile owner. Therefore all information has to be validated by checking with other data sources, requiring high manual efforts.
