The ones who are most interested in learning are usually the ones already at the top of their game. The most competitive are never fully satisfied in their progression. These reps are more inclined to take active steps to improve and excel, while others do the same things over and over hoping for better results.

There are various action steps you can do to become a better salesperson. Today we are going to focus on seven of the most important steps to increase your sales game.

1. Be Flexible

Best sales people don't rely on a script that dictates every single step of how they should sell their product and services. Instead they adapt their sales pitches and processes based upon their customers biggest concerns and solutions needed. Don’t get so caught up in sticking to the script that you are not fully engaging with your customers’ needs.

2. Be Consistent

Anybody can work really hard and be productive for a day or a week, but the most important thing is to do it consistently. Even if you’re not getting a 100% every single day, you’re better off working to at least 80% of your capabilities everyday instead of 100% a day and 30% the next day. Just like getting fit, consistency is what will bring the results.

3. Be A Good Listener

In order to fully address your prospects’ needs, you must listen more than you speak. Becoming an incredible listener is the best way to convince them that you're the right person to solve their problems. Listening makes them feel important, understood, and comfortable in working with you.

4. Be Accountable

Your word is your bond. Never make a promise you can’t keep and never miss a promise you have made. The best salespeople are trustworthy and dependable. Once that trust has been broken it takes an extreme amount of work to repair the relationship and some can never be repaired. You will find it is much easier to do your job, make the sale, and gain new clients if you are seen as a trustworthy and dependable person.

5. Get Referrals

Research has shown that 11% of sales people never asked for referrals. Make it a habit to ask. Put a system in place with reminders or apps to follow up with customers.

6. Use Tools Effectively

It’s 2019. There are hundreds of thousands of apps, software, and platforms to help you become more efficient and productive with your work. Take advantage of these tools and utilize them on a daily basis. Beware of overloading yourself with tech. Sometimes too many tools can slow you down when you become overwhelmed. Use the ones that help enhance your life not bog you down with unnecessary multitasking.

7. Take Pride In Your Work

Some of the most successful sales reps take great pride in their careers. Be sure to take time to appreciate that you are a valuable asset to the company. Feel excitement and enthusiasm about new goals you are ready to achieve.
